12/15/2023 0 Comments Nikka whiskey from barrel![]() ![]() Add to the fact that there is a shortage of the actual whisky. But Hibiki Harmony for example is a different whisky from Hibiki 12 or 17, and each age is decisively blended by a team of master blenders to draw on the strengths of the whiskies for their respective age group. ![]() It would be "overpriced" if it were a bourbon made with one mash bill, in extremely efficient column stills for mass production, and simply aged from 4, 10, 12 years. Nikka has over 100 whiskies blended into it, including unique Coffey still whiskies. Hibiki has over 35 whiskies in the blend, from multiple casks including Mizunara which is a porous wood with high angel's share, and it takes 200 years before the tree is ready to be chopped down, so its rare. I recommend them both.Īlso, people say Japanese whisky is overpriced so often, but fail to consider the craft they are putting into it or the actual cost of making the whisky. On a spectrum, Hibiki is closer to an Irish or Scotch blend, and Nikka is closer to a Bourbon. But what is also amazing is that despite so many flavor notes, there is still clarity to each one. A ton of flavor notes all compressed and it opens up nicely to water/ice. Nikka from the Barrel is more about density than subtlety. It's about how each flavor interacts with each other and progresses over time. What is important here is the restraint of each flavor so it is unobtrusive on the other. Hibiki is subtle and transparent allowing flavors and aspects to be seen.
